Investigate

The Investigate competency says something about the way in which you collect information about a problem and how you approach the problem. An example of a question that belongs to this competence is: "When I have a problem, I first find out what the cause is".

Development tips:

• Go through as many existing models and theories as possible before you start formulating hypotheses.
• Don't limit yourself to one source of information, but use multiple sources.
• Do something completely different for a while and then look at the problem with a fresh look.
• Think about whether there could be other explanations for a problem.
• Reach out to lecturers or fellow students who are familiar with this topic and exchange ideas.
• Talk to people about your research. This helps you to articulate the broad outlines and translate it into daily life.
• Work carefully and try to structure what you want to investigate, for example by making a diagram or flowchart.
