Practicing cognitive ability tests

To get a better idea of what a cognitive ability test is exactly, we will give you information on this page and you can practice with a number of example exercises. This is useful if you have to take such a test yourself, for example for a selection procedure or a study choice or career research.

A cognitive ability test usually consists of several tests. These tests measure various things, such as spatial awareness, numeracy skills, language insight and speed. Depending on the purpose of the study, different tests may have been chosen. Based on the test, something can also be said at what level you could do an education or position, for example. Your scores are then compared with a group of people with, for example, an MBO or HBO education.

Example exercises and practice

Note: If you are going to take an adaptive cognitive ability test (MCT-A), you can do both the practice exercises of the MCT-M and the MCT-H in preparation. The adaptive test consists of 6 parts, the parts Checking and Mirror images are not in the MCT-A.

There are several ways to practice:

Practicing with the cognitive ability test for intermediate level (the MCT-M test) - for people with an education at VMBO or MBO level.

Practice with the cognitive ability test for a higher level (the MCT-H test) - for people with an education from HAVO-VWO level.
