Decisiveness
The Decisiveness competency indicates whether you are able to make decisions independently, even when the circumstances are less favourable. An example of a question that belongs to this competence is: "I can make decisions under great time pressure".
Development tips
- Find out what you think is important and what you really want to work for. That makes making decisions easier.
- In the event of wrong decisions, find out where things went wrong. Would it have been better to wait until you had more information? You probably make decisions too impulsively.
- If you find it difficult to make decisions, ask fellow students who are facing the same decisions to think along with you. Ask them how they make decisions.
- Make sure you can always substantiate a decision, so that others know why you made a certain choice.
- If you have to make a decision about something, make the decision yourself. Then tell your teacher or fellow students what alternatives there were and why you think this was the best choice.
- Do not postpone a decision for an unnecessarily long time. From postponement comes cancellation.
- Set yourself a deadline for making important decisions.
- Remember that you can't always make decisions that everyone agrees with.
