Communicating verbally
The Oral Communication competency describes whether you can convey ideas and information to others in a clear and understandable way, taking into account the level of understanding and knowledge of the interlocutor(s). An example of a question that belongs to this competence is "I tell in a clear and coherent way".
Development tips
- Prepare working groups and presentations well. Decide in advance what it will be about and what message you want to convey.
- Stop talking when you get stuck in your story. Calmly think about what you want to say before you continue.
- Make sure your story connects with your audience.
- Tailor your language and speaking pace to your audience. Use intonation and pauses when speaking.
- Check whether your conversation partner/audience has understood the message.
- When someone has not understood something, explain it in a different way.
- Be concrete and use appropriate examples if you want to make something clear.
- Regularly give a presentation or make sure you get your turn in a working group. Ask for feedback on that.
