Communicating in writing

The competency Written Communication says something about your ability to write in a clear and understandable way, taking into account the level of the reader(s). An example of a question for this competence is: "I make sure that the texts I write have a good structure".

Development tips

  • Read your study assignment with the question: "Which formulations can be shorter and clearer?".
  • Think about what the teacher means by the assignment and what a reader will find interesting to read.
  • Pay attention to your sentence structures and avoid subordinate clauses.
  • Use examples in a text to clarify something.
  • Provide a clear structure (for example: introduction, elaboration and conclusion).
  • Read through the texts of other students. What do you think are good and less good texts and why?
  • Ask for feedback on the writing style in your study assignment.
  • Take an extra course in which you learn how to write effectively and how to use references.
