Purpose
The MCT-H capacity test measures the cognitive abilities of people with an age of about 15 years and an education level from class 5 HAVO/VWO to completed Higher Professional Education (HBO) or University Education (WO). Both predisposition factors and learned factors are examined. With the help of the test, a prediction can be made about a person's maximum achievable education or professional level.
For whom?
The MCT-H can be used by psychologists and (after training) non-psychologists; by career, reintegration and HR advisors, but also by trainers and training counsellors. This instrument can provide valuable insights within an educational, vocational and work context.
The target group is people aged about 15 years and above with an education level from HAVO-VWO level.
What is measured?
The cognitive ability test MCT-H consists of eight subtests. These subtests measure four factors: logical reasoning & spatial awareness, numerical skills, verbal skills, and perceptual speed.
Logical reasoning & spatial insight
Logical reasoning is about the extent to which a candidate is able to discover certain connections between pictures and the extent to which a candidate is able to orient himself spatially.

- Components / Combining shapes
- Mirror images / Flipping pictures
Numerical Abilities
Here we look at the ability to calculate and the ability to reason with numbers.
Subtests:
- Numeracy / Math
- Number series / Logical thinking with numbers
Verbal abilities
This looks at the extent to which a candidate knows the meaning of Dutch words and the ability to see connections between words.
Subtests:
- Word Relations / Comparing Words
- Word analogies / Logical thinking with words
Perceptual speed
This involves measuring the ability to distinguish between differences quickly and accurately.

Background
The MCT-H is suitable for people without a migration background as well as for people with a migration background. During the development, an attempt has been made to limit the dependence on culturally determined skills as much as possible. Among other things, a number of tests have been included with meaningless figures and series of letters and numbers. The instruction of the MCT has also been adapted in terms of language use. In addition, a language test is available that can be taken before taking the MCT.

Norm groups
In order to be able to compare candidates with people with a certain level of education, various representative norm groups by education level are available. There are also norm groups for candidates with a migration background. The language level is such that even people with low language skills can take the test.
Information
There is an online as well as a paper and pencil version of the MCT-H available. The online version is included in NOA-Online, NOA's internet environment. This system can also be used to generate expert reports. In these expert reports, the measurement pretensions of the subtests are explained and the scores are presented in words and in a graph.
N.B. There is also a version available for medium-educated candidates, the MCT-M.
NOA requires training in which you learn to apply and interpret the MCT. This is to guarantee the quality of the test use and careful feedback.
