Text structure Dutch

Purpose

The text structure language test has been developed to check whether the candidate has insight into the basic principles that are applied when writing a text. This includes: paragraph layout, logical structure and flow of sentences, formulation of logical argumentation and conclusion.

The test is used to determine whether problems can be expected with regard to the independent writing of texts. In the case of low scores, extra support in the form of a writing skills course is useful.

Target group

The target group for the Language Test Text Structure are (first-year) students of higher education.

Content and questions

The text structure language test consists of a number of pieces of text. A number of multiple-choice questions follow about these texts.

An example of a paragraph from the text with the corresponding question:

Q (16) Afternoon naps have historically been a common occurrence in many cultures, and not only in Spain and Latin America, where the business community closes its doors for a few hours after lunch.

Question: What is the purpose of paragraph V?

1. a) This paragraph informs about closing times of companies in Spain and Latin America.
2. b) This paragraph is intended to illustrate the quieter life in Spain and Latin America.
3. c) This paragraph serves as an argument for staying indoors around noon.
4. d) This paragraph serves as an example that siestas are of all times.

Correct answer: d

Duration

The test time is 25 minutes.

Decrease

The collection is online. Based on the results, a report with the candidate's scores is generated.

Norm group

The norm group of the Language Test Text Structure consists of first-year students from higher education.
