Intercultural effectiveness

The Intercultural Effectiveness questionnaire (VIE) is designed to provide insight into intercultural effectiveness.

How does someone communicate and collaborate with people from different cultural backgrounds? This involves understanding and respecting cultural differences, adapting communication and behavioral styles, and building mutual trust and understanding.

The VIE consists of 60 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete. The following aspects are measured:

1

Openness to Others

This scale measures whether someone is able and willing to empathize with the feelings and behavior of people from another culture. Is someone interested in the other person's cultural background and does someone try to understand them, or does this not interest them?

2

Contact-Orientedness

This scale measures how easily someone connects with others. Does someone take initiative or does someone wait?

3

Flexibility

This scale focuses on whether someone can adapt easily. Is someone flexible and can they handle change well, or do they prefer clear rules and customs?

4

Managing Stress and Emotions

This scale measures how well someone can manage stress and emotions. Can someone handle pressure, or is someone very sensitive and easily worried?

5

Active and enterprising

This scale focuses on whether someone is active and willing to take risks. Does someone enjoy challenges and always look for something to do, or does someone leave the initiative to others and avoid risks?
